Artist Statement
My body of work combines painting, sculptural installations, collage and photography to investigate themes of transformation — including rebirth and decay, reinterpretation, nature, and human engagement. Texture and patterns are important to me in all media.
I use paint, glue, glitter, molding paste, found objects, paper, and canvas in a powerful merger of abstraction and realism. I am influenced by nature, fashion photography, pop art, and the human experience. They inspire me because of the energy, vivid colors and sensory experiences. My works have sculptural elements — bringing the art closer to the viewer’s world. My art is alternatively hyper-realistic or abstract and super-saturated to encapsulate the vividness of my composition and energy of the moment.
Abstract floral elements are one of my most popular subjects. My work can conceptualize a natural element, the flower, and allows viewer to focus and enjoy key patterns in nature. The petals are reinterpreted in a joyous profusion of multi-colored and dimensional configurations. The work’s texture and color provide visual power.
